‘’Shilpa children development centre”, which is an orphanage situated in Narahenpita, consists of girls belonging to different age groups. It was the place where we conducted our health education programme on 22nd of August.
Before our visit to there, we got together in to teams and arranged our lessons under important areas in which we can educate these children mostly.
According to the age groups of children different topics were selected. How to wash hands properly, how to brush teeth properly, about first aid, about stress management and stress relieving activities are some of these topics.
Our topic was first aid and age group selected was 16-18 years. There were about 16 girls. In order to assess their knowledge about first aid management, we asked them some questions and identify wrong ideas that they had. During the session we educate them about followings,
How to give first aid in,
· Injury like cut, abrasions, burns
· Fever
· Faint
· Dog bite
· Snake bite
We always tried to use simple and understandable language for them. Important points were repeated during the session. By talking with them we could build up a good friendship with them. Finally, we felt that we are successful with their feedback. This experience encourages us to do more social works like this and memorable moment in our heart.
