 Friday,..  Another interesting day of our clerkship program. But it was a lazy day because of morning rain. But I couldn’t absent. So early morning I came to university. According to time table  Child Welfare Clinic (CWC) should be at Peiris road. But our driver didn’t know where it is. We also didn’t know. So he dropped us at Anderson road. Then we came to clinic by walking around 1.5 miles. Good exercise!!!!

Clinic was started at 10am. So many infants and their parents was there. Specially FATHERS ,,,  Normally clinic provides  health care facilities from birth up to 5 years of age. But neonates should attend the clinic after 01 month. As before that Public Health Midwife (PHM) visited to home and provides facilities.  Normally neonate up to 02 years once a month come to clinic. Then normally they come to vaccination.

At the clinic neonates are  registered by PHM. Then she  measured weight and height. Weight is measured by  SECA scale (less than 06 months) or SALTER scale (older children). After the first measurement weight is measure in each clinic visit.

Height is measured by  using INFANTOMETER  or stadiometer. Then PHM note down those things in CHDR (Child Health Development Record ).

After that baby was examined by medical  officer(MO). MO comment on weight and height of baby and record those things in CHDR. If there any problem which  can’t handle  MO refer those patients to paediatrition. If baby needs dietary advices MO deliver  those things after the examination.

After the examination babies were vaccinated by PHM. Vaccines were stored in  VACCINE CARRIER.  It had brought from Dehiwala MOH office on that day morning. Clinic Vaccine Register is maintain by PHM which enters every vaccination.

I saw how babies vaccinated with oral Polio and pentavalent. It was nice experience to me but I know it is unpleasant experience to that baby.

After immunization those were record in CHDR. Those immunization is carried out according to the EPI (Extended Program me  of Immunization.)Apart from that CWC supplies vitamin A and thriposha.

Clinic was very crowded. There was not enough waiting facilities for children and parents. Because of that I saw  many fathers waiting out side the clinic. PHMs and MO  was very kind. They taught us several things about clinic procedure.

Child Welfare Clinic ensures as good as possible for each child. It promotes healthy life styles in the family and removes obstacles to the child’s healthy development.

              SO THE BEST IS FOR THE KIDS.!!!
