               Helping hand for disabled

It was 24^th of  August.We visited Colombo friend –in-need society in Colombo 2. We reached their by university bus.We were welcomed by workshop managerof jaipur foot programme.He explained about the society and services provide by it.   

  Colombo friend –in-need society is charitable organization .It organized to help disabled persons in Srilanka.This was managed by board of management.

§  Manufacturing artificial limbs

§  Mobile bus limb fitting workshop

§  Education grants to disabled children

§  Self employment grants

§  Aidex annual sport meet

§  Transit hostel accomadation for

amputees 

 First they started to make aluminium limbs. It is low cost artificial limb .Limb is fitted to amputee and  start walking training.Young amputee can attain walking pattern within one or two days.In 1991 plastic socket fabricatin was introduced to improve quality of artificial limb.

              

                   Then we visit to see workshop.We show how they were making artificial limbs. After getting measurements from amputee prosthesis made according to height of limb.There were two young amputees worked their as normal persons.Society had 28 number of staff. They get fund from Ministry of social services,Rotary club,Lions club,individuals and the public sponsored the project.

                        Finally we visited to hostel which provide accomodation for amputees It had 3 wards .Two for male and one for female.Bystander can stay with amputee.Food and accomodation  is free of charge.

                     Colombo friend-in –need society provide greater support for disable perscns to maintain a normal life.
