Heart touching memories
Another day of clerk ship begins…It was 17th
august.I was eagle waiting for this day, because today we supposed to go
infectious disease hospital(IDH) in angoda. We went by our bus.It was nice journey. But
I never think that this journey will change my thoughts.
After we went there matron warmly well come us and bring us
to a lecture hall. Then she gave us interesting lecture about the hospital.
It was established in British time. Ideal infectious disease
hospital in south Asia which situated in highest place in Colombo. There are
separate camps for each disease which are separated from barriers to prevent
moving patients among camps. Each camp has separate toilets, kichen and other
facilities. There are 4
medical wards
Pediatric
ward
HIV ward
Isolation unit
Dengue management unit
ICU
Clinics in IDH.
All procedures are done with precautions to minimize cross infection.
There are 5 universal precautions for
cross infection. 1.HAND WASHING
2.PERSONAL
PROTECTIVE EQUIVPMENT
3.STERILIZATION
AND DISINFECTION OF EQUIVPMENT THAT USE FOR EACH PATIENT
4.PROPER
WASTE DISPOSAL
5.ENVIORENMENTAL CLEANING
Hand washing is done as scrubbing in theaters. Most important
place is given to personal protective equipment (PPE).
PPE consist of pajama(green
colour, long sleaves, high neck, small opening at back)
Overall covering(orange color)
Polithene apron
Mask(N 95,at margins there is aluminum rim to adjacent the
shape to fit face)
Goggles
Cap
Shoe covers
Then we went to see isolation rooms.there was 2seperate parts
in the room. And also separate toilet and bathroom for each room.Matron showed
us how we should enter, examine the patient and how we should leave the room.
HIV wards also there.but we were unable to see wards or
patients.
After visiting to IDH
I realize though we get precautions to reach them though we isolate them we
have to treat them as other human beings.Because as we love our parents, our
siblings they also a parent or sibling of some one else who love them so
much.So we have to protect them.NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE,NEVER DISCRIMINATE THEM.
