It was my first visit to a factor y. Exactly it was a new experience ļ Kash garment which is situated in Pepilliyana, is a factory, which consists of about 300 working people. Normal working hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are 6 sections in the factory ; storage section, cutting, sewing, packing etc, to which workers are allocated. Most of these employees are from faraway places from Pepilliyana and they have holidays on weekends and public holidays.
As a factory which is concerned about workers, following are
the positive points that I saw,
·
Inside the factory was well lit
·
As
the personal protective equipments masks, caps, gloves are provided.
·
There
is a trained staff to provide health support in an emergency management in case
of an accident.
·
During
working hours radio is on. So he working people can listen to them. It helps to
relieve their stress.
These were the negative points , I recognized as health
hazards.
v Sound produced by machines and
generator make a noisy environment.
v Room temperature was increased in
sewing section.
v There was no proper usage of self
protective equipments among workers, so needle prick & cut injuries are
common
v There was a dusty environment in the
cutting section
v Inside the first aid box, there was
nothing
Followings are the welfare facilities
provided by the garment,
ü There is a welfare society in the
garment, where the office bearers are elected by members
ü From there monthly salary, they
contributes Rs.75 for the welfare society
ü The factory maintain a sick room for
the welfare of the workers
ü Society pays Rs.30000 to bereaved
family as a donation at the time of sudden death of a family member
ü Workers can get medical leave
depending on their illnesses
ü Factory provide transport to nearest doctor or
hospital in a case of sudden illness to its workers & they are free of
doctor’s fee & pharmacy bill
